Payee Verification Comes to Lumon Pay's Payment Journey

Movitz Payments and Lumon Pay are partnering to add payee verification to Lumon Pay's payment journey, adding stronger protection before funds are sent rather than after.

Lumon Pay has spent close to 26 years helping people move money across borders, today across more than 150 countries and 40 currencies for tens of thousands of customers. Much of that volume is the kind of transfer people make only once or twice: an overseas property purchase, a pension payout, a family transfer that has to land in the right account the first time. Those are exactly the payments where fraud, misdirected transfers, and account manipulation do the most damage, and where a customer has the least practice spotting when something is off.

The scale of the problem is well documented. Payment fraud cost an estimated €4.2 billion across the EU/EEA in 2024, and a single misdirected or returned payment typically costs €20 to €60 to unwind, before counting the cost to customer trust. Much of that damage traces back to one gap: verification, where it exists at all, tends to happen after a payment has already gone wrong rather than before it leaves the account.

“You could tell from the first meeting that Lumon Pay really cares about the safety of their clients' money,” says Magnus Hedenberg, CEO of Movitz Payments. “That's not something a company can fake. When you're helping people move money across 150 countries, often for the kind of transfer that only happens once or twice in a lifetime, getting the payee right isn't a feature, it's the entire job. That's exactly the kind of partner we want standing behind our verification.”

The partnership closes that gap by combining Lumon Pay's payment services with Movitz's payee verification capabilities, checking who is actually on the receiving end before a payment is sent. It's an extra layer of security built into the payment journey Lumon Pay's customers already use, connected through Movitz's single API across every verification scheme it supports rather than a separate integration for each one.

“Working with Movitz has been refreshingly simple,” says Patrick Darling, Senior Product Manager at Lumon Pay. “One API covers every scheme we need, instead of a separate integration for each one. That's exactly what let us add this layer of protection without slowing our customers down.”

It also reflects a broader shift in the industry. As payment fraud keeps rising, customers increasingly expect a simple, effective way to confirm who they are paying, not as an extra step bolted onto the payment but as a routine part of it.
